Diets that are high-in carbs, especially simple carbs are often associated with weight gain because of the storage effect. Now eating a low-carb diet reduce the activity of the storage hormone and helps with weight loss.

So it’s not about cutting all carbs out of your diet it’s about choosing good source of carbohydrates.
